Tour overview

Two islands, one open-jaw route: you land in Baltra and fly home from San Cristobal, so no day is spent retracing your steps. Nights are on land, in a hotel with air conditioning and a private bathroom.

Day two is pure water: two snorkels off Pinzon or Santa Fe with reef sharks, manta rays and sea lions, plus a white-sand beach where turtles nest between November and February. Then you cross to San Cristobal, the island where sea lions outnumber people, for the interpretation centre, Punta Carola and the short climb to Cerro Tijeretas.

The highlight lands on day four: the full 360 tour around Kicker Rock, the only site in Galapagos where snorkellers regularly meet Galapagos hammerhead sharks, followed by Cerro Brujo, Punta Pitt and a swim in the lava pool of Rosa Blanca Bay.

Ecosportour is an Ecuadorian operator based in Quito. Guides are bilingual naturalists licensed by the Galapagos National Park, and the ferries, water taxis, hotel taxes and snorkel gear are all arranged for you.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Arrival in Baltra and the highlands of El Chato

11:00 transfer from the airport to your hotel. 12:00 lunch. 14:00 up to the highlands of Santa Cruz, where giant tortoises live in the wild, followed by the lava tunnels, huge volcanic formations that explain how the archipelago evolved. 17:00 back at the hotel. 19:00 briefing on the next day's activities.

  • 08:00 pick-up from your hotel in Puerto Ayora and transfer to the pier to board the yacht. Around 50 minutes' sailing to Pinzon Island for two snorkels with white-tip reef sharks, Galapagos sharks, sea turtles, sea lions and colourful reef fish. Lunch on board. Second snorkel at Santa Fe or Pinzon with reef sharks, manta rays and sea lions. Visit to Santa Fe beach, white sand and a sea turtle nesting site from November to February, with a last snorkel from the shore before sailing back to Puerto Ayora.

  • 06:00 pick-up and transfer to the municipal pier of Puerto Ayora to board the ferry for the two-hour speedboat crossing to San Cristobal. Hotel check-in, then the interpretation centre, where the guide explains the origin and evolution of the islands and the human history of Galapagos. Lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, snorkel at Punta Carola beach, home to a large sea lion colony, in warm, clear water. Short walk up to Cerro Tijeretas for a second snorkel with sea lions, sea turtles and reef sharks. Return to the hotel.

  • 07:00 pick-up from the hotel and transfer to the yacht. Forty minutes' sailing to Kicker Rock (Leon Dormido), an immense rock formation rising from the sea and the only place in Galapagos where you can snorkel with Galapagos hammerhead sharks, alongside sea turtles and sea lions. Twenty minutes further on, Cerro Brujo, with its dramatic volcanic formations and Galapagos seabirds. Lunch on board. In the afternoon, Punta Pitt for red-footed boobies and a beautiful beach, then the last stop at Rosa Blanca Bay: a short walk and a swim in a large lava pool with Galapagos sharks, sea lions and sea turtles. Return to Puerto Baquerizo Moreno.

  • Free morning for last-minute shopping in Puerto Baquerizo Moreno. 10:30 pick-up from your hotel and transfer to San Cristobal Airport for airline check-in. End of services.

Good to know

  • You arrive at Baltra Airport, on Santa Cruz, on day 1 and fly home from San Cristobal Airport on day 5. Book an open-jaw ticket: flights to and from Galapagos are not included.

  • Day 4 takes you to Kicker Rock (Leon Dormido), the only site in Galapagos where you can snorkel with Galapagos hammerhead sharks. Sea turtles and sea lions are also regulars there. As with all wildlife, sightings can never be guaranteed.

  • Two hours by speedboat ferry from Puerto Ayora to San Cristobal, departing early on day 3 after a 06:00 pick-up at your hotel.

  • Very little. The programme is built around boat trips and snorkelling; the walks are short, such as the interpretation centre trail and the climb to Cerro Tijeretas on day 3. You should be comfortable swimming in open water.

  • The Galapagos National Park entrance fee of USD 200 (USD 30 for Ecuadorian nationals) and the USD 20 Transit Control Card issued by the Galapagos Governing Council.

  • Breakfast at the hotel and lunch every day are included, from lunch on day 1 to breakfast on the last day, plus juices with meals and unlimited water at the hotel. Dinners are not included.
